Laboratorio volante suborbitale per test in volo di tecnologie aerospaziali
IpaziaSpace S.r.l. is an innovative startup incubated at ESA BIC Padova, focused on developing space propulsion technologies and modular systems for suborbital, ballistic, and high-altitude flights.
The project proposes a suborbital flying laboratory—that is, a flight platform designed to carry payloads, sensors, materials, avionics components, communication systems, and aerospace technologies to high altitudes, allowing them to be tested under real flight conditions rather than just in the laboratory.
The goal is to offer companies, startups, SMEs, universities, and research centers a flight testing and technology validation service that is more accessible, flexible, and sustainable than traditional channels. In fact, many aerospace technologies need to be tested in realistic environments—including acceleration, vibrations, temperature variations, dynamic profiles, telemetry, data retrieval, and operational conditions—before they can be deployed in operational missions, as these conditions are difficult to fully replicate on the ground.
IpaziaSpace’s solution is based on a modular and scalable architecture, designed to support demonstration missions, experimental campaigns, data collection, and the validation of innovative technologies. The primary value lies not only in the development of the launch vehicle, but in the creation of an industrial “flying laboratory” service for the space economy and for national and European aerospace supply chains.
Through Registry and related collaborative innovation initiatives, IpaziaSpace aims to connect with industrial partners, advanced manufacturing companies, aerospace firms, and manufacturers of sensors, innovative materials, electronics, avionics, and telecommunications, as well as research centers interested in using or co-developing in-flight testing services.
Potential collaborative activities include defining test requirements, integrating demonstration payloads, validating components or materials during flight campaigns, developing industrial use cases, and building a network of partners for future experimental missions.
The project aims to contribute to the growth of Italian and European capabilities in the aerospace testing sector, reducing the time, costs, and barriers to accessing in-flight validation of innovative technologies.
